PU được dùng để cách nhiệt nóng và lạnh (-185oC đến 90oC) trong công nghiệp. Được sản xuất dưới dạng ống định hình và tấm. PU là chất cách nhiệt tốt, không mùi. Không hư mòn, thông dụng trong ngành thực phẩm và hoá chất. Tỷ trọng thông thường 32-60kg/m3, dày tối thiểu 12mm.
